Job Description

Overview

A candidate for this position should be familiar with AFM and Optical microscopy and sample preparation methods for those techniques. The candidate will be expected to prepare samples by microtomy, mechanical polishing and other methods. The candidate will be expected to image and analyze samples by AFM, optical interferometry, profilometry and nano-indentation and use Excel to compile results.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare samples by diamond saw, microtomy, metallography and mechanical polishing
  • Analyze samples by AFM methods including contact, tapping, nanothermal and nano-indentation
  • Analyze samples by supporting techniques including optical interferometry and profilometry
  • Characterize materials and samples, analyze and interpret results and share findings with customers
  • General lab maintenance duties

Job Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field with experience in AFM through research or industry
  • At least 1 year of experience with AFM instrumentation
  • Experience with optical microscopy techniques
  • Familiar with sample preparation techniques for optical microscopy, especially microtomy
  • Ability to work effectively beneath a microscope and manipulate small objects (Micromanipulation)
  • Clean preparation methods and attention to detail
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel
